Chemical Peels

What are chemical peels?
A chemical peel is a body treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

What are the different types of chemical peels?
Alpha Hydroxy Acid Peels, AHA
Beta Hydroxy Acid Peels, BHA
Jessner’s Peel
Retinoic Acid Peel
Trichloroacetic Acid Peels, TCA
Phenol Peels

At our Clinc, we offer the following chemical peels:
Alpha Hydroxy Acid Peels, AHA (Glycolic Acid)
Modified Jessner
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are naturally occurring organic carboxylic acids such as glycolic acid, a natural constituent of sugar cane juice and lactic acid, found in sour milk and tomato juice.

Modified Jessner is a superficial to medium depth peeling agent with a combination of Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Citric Acid. Designed for treating more extensive damage than AHA’s can improve.
Choose Jessner solution for improvement of acne, oily skin, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and photodamage.

Chemical peels are used to:
reduce fine wrinkling and lines.
reduce uneven pigmentation.
aid in the control of acne and blackheads.
smooth rough dry skin.
improve skin texture and colour.
promote skin cell renewal.
brighten and smoothen skin.
soften look of scars

How are chemical peels performed?
The skin is thoroughly cleansed with an agent that removes excess oils and impurities. The chemical peel is prepared and applied to the area to be treated. Glycolic peels have a time limit of 3 minutes. After which, the doctor will apply a neutralising solution to neutralise the chemical peel. For salicylic acid or PCA peels, the solution is applied twice. Easy Peels require multiple coats until a reaction between the skin and chemical peel is observed. At any stage, if there is pain or significant signs of inflammation, the chemical peel is either neturalised or discontinued.

What to expect during the procedure?
During the procedure, most patients will experience a warm and stinging sensation. This can be alleviated by using cold compresses and blowing cool air to the treated area.

What happens after the procedure? Are there any downtimes associated with chemical peelings?
A reaction similar to a sunburn occurs following chemical peels. There will be redness following by scaling that ends within 5 to 14 days depending on the type of chemical peel used. You may want to schedule important functions till after your skin has fully recuperated. The newly rejuvenated skin is very sensitive to sunlight and dry. You are advised to apply moisturizers and sunblock lotions and to avoid applying make up until your skin has fully recuperated.

What are the possible side effects of Chemical Peeling?
Cause stinging.
Cause skin redness.
Cause skin irritation and dryness.
Small risk of scarring. This can usually be treated with good results.
Reactivation of cold sores. You may have to take medication after the peel in order to prevent an outbreak

DYSPORT®

Dysport®(abobotulinumtoxin A), a prescription medicine, is a purified protein that is derived from a bacteria named Clostridium botulinum. It is FDA approved.

It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle contractions that cause persistent lines to form..

How is the procedure done?
Botox injections are very simple "lunch time" procedures. It is usually completed in 10-20 minutes.

Most clients do not require any topical anaesthesia prior to the injections. Ice compression is usually applied before and after the procedure to minimize discomfort, swelling and bruising.
The group of muscles responsible for the wrinkles will be identified and very fine needles are used for injecting the botulinum toxin.
Mild pressure will be applied to the injected sites for brief moments to stop any bleeding.

What happens after the procedure?

What are the possible side effects of botulinum toxin A?
DYSPORT® has an excellent safety profile. Side effects are usually minor and are self-limiting.

Immediately after the procedure, you might feel a bit of lumpiness, discomfort or bruising over the injected sites. Mild pressure and ice compression would suffice.

DERMA FILLERS

What are Derma Fillers?
By definition, a dermal filler is a product that is injected into the dermis layer of the skin. It helps to lift and fill in facial lines and creases, temporarily restoring its youthful and plumped-up appearance.

The results are immediate and astonishing and can take several years off you in a single stroke.

What are Derma Fillers used for?
Usually used in conjunction with DYSPORT® for the smoothening of lines, wrinkles and folds (nasolabial folds, marionette lines, glabellar lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines)
Lip augmentation. Creates fuller and luscious lips.
Cheek and Chin augmentation. Restores lost volume and creates a more youthful appearance.
Filling up shallow scars and depressions (acne scars, tear troughs)
Nose contouring. Enhances nose bridge and reshapes tip of nose.

What types of Derma Fillers are available?
Temporary (bovine collagen, porcine collagen, hyaluronic acid)
Semi-permanent (pmma, poly l-lactic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite)
Permanent (aquamid)
At our Clinic, we only use temporary hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is the most prominent glycosaminoglycan in the skin. It binds potently to water and, when injected into the skin, volumizes, softens, and hydrates the skin. In addition to these benefits, it also plays a role in cell growth, membrane receptor function, and adhesion. Risk of allergy is remote and owing to their chemical properties, they offer superior cosmetic products.
